Inspired by Vegas 2: Real inspiration
Posted 12 January 2011 by Cheryl ClaudineThe Cosmopolitan, the brand new hotel-casino that just opened its glamorous doors on December 15th, 2010, was chock full of real inspiration.
Even though much of the Cosmopolitan’s beauty was perhaps unattainable, as shown in many of the photos I included in Part I of Inspired by Vegas, there were still a few delightful little niches that I could see myself reinterpreting for my own living space one day.
Take for instance this charming sitting area (and here’s a 6-second video of the space):
Don’t you just love the beautifully tufted ottomans, the five different kinds of seating that go-but-don’t-match, and the elegant meshing of modern and traditional? I think those ottomans would be easy to DIY. {Apologies for the photo quality; I really do need to invest in a DSLR camera but am just making do with what I’ve got for now. The lighting in casinos and hotels is great for “chillaxing” but horrible for photos.}
Next up, a house phone nook:
This look is begging to be replicated.

I would love to hang a pretty chandelier, like this one from Pottery Barn, over a gorgeous rich purple tufted settee like this one from Anthropologie (but I can’t find it on their website anymore; pic via Comfort and Luxury), and sit a faux antique phone like this one from Pottery Barn atop the settee.
I snapped a pic of another cute sitting area at the Cosmopolitan.
A couple of simple slipper chairs, upholstered in a bold print + an ottoman in a coordinating colour + a classic modern glass-topped round side table = a lovely reading corner for your bedroom or living area!
It’s super easy to find these ubiquitous pieces. For those of you in the U.S. (lucky you!), you can order the chair, ottoman, and side table shown in the top row from Overstock.com (unfortunately, we Canadians can’t buy most furniture from Overstock). The chair, ottoman, and side table in the bottom row are all from Ikea’s Stockholm line.
Finally, here are a few uninspiring photos of our room at Aria. In general, our stay at Aria was pleasant, but we both found our hotel room to be too dark. I thought the furniture was somewhat bland, especially when compared to the rest of the hotel.
I hope to stay at The Cosmopolitan the next time we go to Vegas!!! (Oh, did I already say that?)

Inspiration overload! in a good way! =) I love it all!
Aww, thanks Jenn! I love it all, too :-)

Oh the tufting!!! There is a part of me that would love to go all out with plush upholstery like this. I just have to remind myself it doesn’t really work with the clean horizontal lines of our craftsman bungalow. *sigh*
Still I can dream. I really want to see this in person now.
Oh, you have to go to Vegas if you haven’t been there in awhile! It’s no longer the Vegas I remembered from my first time there in 1991. Although, being 11 at the time, all I remember was playing games and winning toys at Circus Circus.

After looking at your photos I wish I was in Vegas NOW! You can find that settee on the Urban Outfitters website, they don’t have it in purple (bummer)but it’s exactly the same and they also have two other styles that are really cool.

Thanks, Lisa! It is too bad the sofa isn’t available in purple any more, but I am loving that caribbean blue version! Not that I am seriously considering getting one, but a girl can dream, can’t she?
I love that Ikea STockholm chair, and wish it came in a different pattern than the ones offered. I keep thinking about getting it and trying to make my own….
And those wooden and white scoop chairs in the top photo seriously rock!
Ooh I agree on both accounts! Yeah, the Ikea Stockholm chair pattern looks a bit too “Ikea”….
